Program 3

Jewish Heritage

Sunday February 24th, 7:30pm

Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, 130 Navy Street, Oakville
In this concert we celebrate the wonderful music of ethnically Jewish composers (plus Prokofiev, whose work on this concert is a tribute to Jewish folk style). Rhapsody in Blue is one of the best-known pieces of American music (just think about the American Airlines commercial, that’s why they have a piano keyboard on their airplanes’ tails) Aidan Leung will do something special with this piece that literally no pianist has done before!

It’s also our joy to present the Mahler songs, which are by turns sentimental, martial, and hilarious. L’chaim!
  • Mendelssohn – Hebrides Overture

  • Mahler – 6 Songs from The Boy’s Magic Horn

    • Daniel Hambly, baritone

  • Prokofiev – Overture on Hebrew Themes

  • Gershwin – Rhapsody in Blue

    • Aidan Leung (2023 prize-winner), piano
