We are excited to announce the finalists of the 2025 Oakville Chamber Orchestra’s Youth Concerto Competition!

The winners will be selected at the Concerto Competition finals taking place on Sunday May 11 from 2 pm - 5 pm at Merriam School of Music, 2359 Bristol Circle, Oakville.

We encourage everyone to watch the videos of these incredibly talented youth on our website!

Our final concert of the season will be taking place this Sunday, April 13 at 3 pm at St. John’s United Church in Oakville.

The program entitled, “Darkness to Light” will include:

🎵 Ron Beckett Nature’s Cry
🎵 Shostakovich Cello Concerto #1 (featuring Lexie Krakowski, soloist)
🎵 Beethoven Symphony #1 in C

Tonight's the Night! Our first concert of 2025 will be taking place tonight at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. The concert, entitled "Super Talented Youth!" will take feature 3 previous winners from our Youth Concerto Competition: Christie Cheung, Karen Kobayashi and Adriel Sloss.

🎵 Karen will join the us for our performance of Ibert Flute Concerto 3rd movement
🎵 Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto 1st movement will include Adriel
🎵 Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto #3 will have Christie join us on stage

Adriel Sloss tied for second in the Junior Age cat

Adriel Sloss tied for second in the Junior Age category of the 2024 Youth Concerto Competition.ㅤ

Adriel will join us at on stage during our next concert, “Super Talented Youth!” when we perform Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto 1st movement. The concert will take place on Saturday, February 22 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are still available!

Here at OCO we are very proud of our Youth Concert

Here at OCO we are very proud of our Youth Concerto Competition. Many of our prize winners have gone on to very impressive achievements. For example, the year after performing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with us, Sophie van der Sloot dropped out of Juilliard to join the Montreal Symphony.

JJ Bui, after performing Chopin’s Concerto #2 with us, won sixth place in the Chopin competition in Warsaw.

Very many of our winners have been in CBC’s 30 under 30 ranking, and almost all of them have gone on to significant professional careers. Winners have returned from as far away as London, UK to perform with us; Adriel Sloss flew in from studies in Los Angeles to perform with us.

Oakville’s own Emad Zolfaghari recently won the Primrose, the world’s most important viola competition! They bring a level of excellence to our performances that we are proud to share with you.

This concert contains the largest part of the very famous Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, which we imagine will be familiar to very many of you. It is a joy to perform, but no less of a joy is the final movement of Ibert’s Flute Concerto. Ibert’s music is both rhythmically complex and harmonically fascinating; if you’re hearing it for the first time, we’re sure you’ll be delighted!

Here’s to celebrating young talent! We hope to see you on the 22nd!
