Our first concert of 2025 will take place on Satur

Our first concert of 2025 will take place on Saturday, February 22 at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. The concert, entitled "Super Talented Youth!" will take feature 3 previous winners from our Youth Concerto Competition: Christie Cheung, Karen Kobayashi and Adriel Sloss.

🎵 Karen will join the us for our performance of Ibert Flute Concerto 3rd movement
🎵 Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto 1st movement will include Adriel
🎵 Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto #3 will have Christie join us on stage

The program will commence at 7:30 pm. If supporting local musicians and artists was one of your resolutions for the year, we hope to see you next month!

Adriel Sloss tied for second in the Junior Age cat

Adriel Sloss tied for second in the Junior Age category of the 2024 Youth Concerto Competition.

Born in Toronto, Adriel Sloss began playing the violin at the age of four. He joined the Taylor Academy for Young Artists at the Royal Conservatory of Music when he was nine, where he studied with Kelly Parkins-Lindstrom and Jonathan Crow. Now, he studies with Martin Beaver at the Colburn Conservatory where he is pursuing his Bachelor’s of Music.

Karen Kobayashi tied for second in the Junior Age

Karen Kobayashi tied for second in the Junior Age category of the 2024 Youth Concerto Competition.
ㅤ
Karen is a high school student who studies flute under Susan Hoeppner, previously with Louis Papachristos and Hideko Amano. In 2023, she performed at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York as a first place winner of the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition, and appeared on “Introduction” of WFMT, Chicago’s classical music radio station.

Proof that music is truly universal: In September

Proof that music is truly universal: In September engineer and astronaut Sarah Gillis and the Polaris program released a video titled “Harmony of Resilience,” in which she played “Rey’s Theme” from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on the violin aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft on the Polaris Dawn mission.

In the recording, Gillis performs the violin solo while accompanied by orchestras in the USA, Haiti, Brazil, Uganda, Venezuela, and Sweden. “As we travel our beautiful planet Earth on this five-day mission, we want to share this special musical moment with you,” she says, introducing the music.

During our next program, "Super Talented Youth!" we will be joined by Christie Cheung, violin soloist.

Christine won first place in the Junior Age category of the 2024 Oakville Chamber Orchestra's Youth Concerto Competition.
ㅤ
Christie is currently a violin student at the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where she is under the tutelage of Dr. Conrad Chow. Christie has had the opportunity to perform for renowned violinists such as Maxim Vengerov, Augustin Hadelich, and James Ehnes.
