In the late 18th century, Mannheim had an orchestra renowned throughout Europe, and composers living there developed a style of their own. Mozart visited there several times, and his wonderful Fortieth Symphony incorporates elements of that style. Join us as we visit a gem of a city!

Born and raised in Beijing, China, Jason is currently pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree with double major in Music and Philosophy at the University of Toronto. He is a member of the University of Toronto Wind Ensemble, the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Jason’s musical journey began at the age of four with the piano and transitioned to the oboe at eight. He studied oboe with Mr. Jingchun Jin in Beijing and with Mr. Aleh Remezau in Toronto. He has performed in many renowned venues in China, Austria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Canada, including concerto performances with orchestras at the Beijing Concert Hall and Vienna City Hall, as well as orchestral performances in the Forbidden City Concert Hall, the National Centre of Performing Arts, Wiener Musikverein and Roy Thomson Hall. He was awarded first prize at both the Hong Kong International Music Festival and the China Youth Music Competition in solo and chamber music.
After graduating from the Affiliated High School of Peking University in 2022, Jason studied philosophy at Sun Yat-Sen University before moving to Toronto in 2023. Beyond music, Jason is deeply engaged in philosophy, with particular interests in ancient Greek philosophy, the philosophy of tragedy, and, of course, the philosophy of music. He believes cultural enrichments are fundamental for shaping a unique and thoughtful musician.
From China to Canada, Jason’s path toward his dreams has crossed half of the globe. He is honoured to be awarded first place in the 2025 Oakville Chamber Orchestra concerto competition. With the opportunity to perform Lebrun’s first oboe concerto, he hopes to share the full beauty and charm of the oboe.
